Hello
I've always had a passion for art, it wasn't until last year that I began taking commissions and officially launching my pet portrait business. During this time, I've had the privilege of capturing the essence of many cherished animals, connecting with amazing clients, and often their furry companions, while also learning from fellow artists in the community.
My Story
My artistic journey began in childhood. I distinctly remember a project in elementary school where we designed our own business cards. Mine boldly proclaimed my profession as an artist, a clear indication of my aspirations from a young age. In high school, I decided to pursue fashion design, much to the disappointment of my art teacher, who believed I should focus on illustration. However, as a determined teenager, I followed my own path. I attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where I earned my degree and entered the fashion industry in New York City, working for well-known brands like Kate Spade, Dress Barn, and Hartstrings. Despite my achievements, I felt an emptiness and craved a more creative outlet. This led me to start a painting business specializing in faux finishes and murals, during which I also dabbled in portraiture. As my two daughters grew and became more active, I set aside my pencils and paintbrushes to fully embrace motherhood.

In 2024, as both my daughters headed to college, I reignited my passion for art, focusing on drawing and finding inspiration in animals. With support from family and friends, I launched Kim Layton Art, specializing in lifelike pet portraits. I love pouring my heart into each commission and would be excited to create a special piece for you!
